JUST IN: Sunday Igboho Set to Return to Nigeria from Self Exile
Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, plans to return to Nigeria from self exile.
This follows support from traditional rulers in the South West, who helped clear his name and secure his return.
Monarchs Support Igboho’s Return
Igboho’s spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, said Yoruba monarchs played a major role in his return.
He named the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, as key supporters.
Koiki added that their efforts helped resolve the issues keeping Igboho away from Nigeria.
Igboho’s Appeal to the Government
In 2025, Igboho said he was tired of living in exile.
He visited the Olugbon of Orile Igbon in Oyo State and asked the federal government to remove his name from the wanted list.
He said he is not a criminal and should not be treated as one.
Passport and Bank Restrictions
Igboho said the previous government declared him wanted for an unknown offence.
As a result, he could not use his Nigerian passport.
He also said he lost access to his bank accounts despite court rulings in his favour.
No Date Yet for Return
Koiki said the exact date of Igboho’s return is not ready yet.
However, he said the team is working on the arrangements and will share details soon.
He described the news as a moment of joy for Ibadanland and Yorubaland.
Why Igboho Became Famous
Igboho became widely known in January 2021.
He issued a seven day eviction notice to herders in Igangan, Oyo State.
This came after the killing of local farmer Fatai Aborode.
Later, security agents raided his home in Ibadan, and two of his associates died.
Igboho then fled to Benin Republic.
He tried to travel to Germany but got arrested at the Cotonou airport.
He spent nearly two years in detention before his release in March 2022.
Many Nigerians protested his arrest and demanded his freedom.
