The Nigerian Army has assured traders at Onitsha Main Market and other economic centres in Anambra State of their safety.
The assurance came from the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army in a statement issued on Tuesday. The army said it would protect traders and other law-abiding citizens using all necessary security measures.

Security Operations Remain Active
The army said security forces remain fully deployed and on high alert across the region. It added that intelligence-led operations are ongoing to dismantle criminal groups operating from hidden locations.
According to the statement, these groups have disrupted peace while posing as freedom fighters.
Army Commends Traders for Reopening Shops
The 82 Division praised traders in Onitsha Main Market for reopening their businesses after years of threats.
The army described the decision as a bold and patriotic move that supports peace, security, and economic growth in Anambra State and the wider South-East region.
It noted that criminal activities in the area had long targeted commerce and community stability.
Warning to Criminal Groups
The army warned all criminal elements to abandon violence and embrace peace. It said security agencies would apply the full weight of the law against anyone who refuses.
The statement stressed that no hiding place would protect criminals from justice.
Call for Public Cooperation
The army urged residents to continue their lawful activities without fear. It also advised the public to ignore threats aimed at undermining security efforts.
The division reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and defending Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Commitment to Lasting Peace
The 82 Division said it would continue working with civil authorities, traditional institutions, and other security agencies to ensure lasting peace and security across Anambra State.
