Funke Akindele’s Behind the Scenes Earns $301,505 in US and Canada

Funke Akindele’s latest movie, Behind the Scenes, has recorded a strong opening in North America. The film grossed $301,505 across the United States and Canada during its opening weekend.

According to official figures shared by the film’s executive production team, the movie earned $190,249 in the United States and $111,256 in Canada within three days. As a result, the film continues to show strong international appeal.

Strong Box Office Growth

This North American success follows an impressive run in West Africa, where the film earned over ₦2 billion. Meanwhile, the results highlight growing interest in Nollywood films outside Africa.

Despite rising costs and inflation, Behind the Scenes continues to attract cinema audiences. Therefore, the film stands out in a competitive global market.

About Behind the Scenes

Behind the Scenes is directed by Funke Akindele and Tunde Olaoye. It features a star-studded cast that includes Destiny Etiko, Ibrahim Chatta, Ini Dima-Okojie, Iyabo Ojo, Tobi Bakre, Uzor Arukwe, and Victoria Adeleye.

The drama runs for two hours and 24 minutes and carries a 12A rating.

The story follows Aderonke “Ronky-Fella” Faniran, a successful real estate entrepreneur. However, her habit of always helping others soon affects her personal life. The film explores themes of self-sacrifice, boundaries, and responsibility.

Currently, cinemas across Nigeria and Ghana, including Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, and Accra, are showing the movie.

High Budget and Industry Pressure

The film’s production cost reportedly exceeded ₦1 billion. As production expenses continue to rise, filmmakers now face more pressure to deliver strong box office results.

Following the release, the producers warned viewers not to record or share movie clips. Such actions encourage piracy and can reduce cinema earnings.

Record-Breaking Achievements

The success of Behind the Scenes adds to Funke Akindele’s record-breaking career. She has ranked number one at the African box office for three straight years, with a combined total of ₦5.39 billion.

Below is a breakdown of her recent box office performance:

  • 2023: A Tribe Called Judah earned ₦1.408 billion, becoming Nollywood’s first billion-naira film

  • 2024: Everybody Loves Jenifa grossed ₦1.883 billion, setting a new industry record

  • 2025: Behind the Scenes closed at ₦2.103 billion, making it West Africa’s highest-grossing film

The film was released under the Funke Ayotunde Akindele Network (FAAN) and distributed by FilmOne Entertainment.
