Fires broke out at a plant in southern Volgograd after Ukrainian drone attacks early Wednesday, according to Russian officials and local reports.

Russian Defense Ministry Reports 49 Drones

Russia’s Defense Ministry said air defenses intercepted 49 unmanned aerial vehicles over the Volgograd region. The attacks occurred in the early hours of February 11.

Regional governor Andrey Bocharov said drones targeted energy and civilian infrastructure.

“In Volzhsky, an apartment at 75 Karbyshev Street was damaged. A UAV also fell on the grounds of the Yagodka kindergarten. Additionally, a fire broke out at a plant in southern Volgograd,” Bocharov said.

He confirmed that no casualties were reported.

Fire Reported in Industrial Area

Local outlet Novosti Volgograda reported that falling drone debris caused a fire at one of the city’s industrial plants. Residents also reported seeing a large blaze in the industrial zone.

Oil Refinery Allegedly Targeted

Open-source intelligence channel Dnipro OSINT reported that drones struck the LUKOIL Volgogradneftepererabotka oil refinery. Preliminary reports suggest damage to fuel and lubricant storage tanks.

The refinery has previously halted operations due to damage from attacks.

According to Reuters, the Volgograd refinery processed 13.7 million tons of crude oil in 2024. That figure accounts for 5.1 percent of Russia’s total oil refining output.

Ongoing Ukraine Conflict

The reported drone strike marks another escalation in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Both sides continue to target energy and industrial infrastructure as part of the broader conflict.
