FG Enforces Biometric Attendance for TVET Programme
The Federal Government has fully enforced biometric attendance across all Technical and Vocational Education and Training centres. This step aims to improve transparency, accountability, and service delivery.
The Federal Ministry of Education confirmed that the policy took effect on 1 February 2026. It follows a directive issued in December 2025. That directive instructed all TVET centres to install biometric systems for real time monitoring.
According to the Ministry, biometric verification now serves as the only approved method for validating attendance in the TVET Programme.
FG Links Payments to Verified Attendance Records
Under the new policy, the government will process payments to training centres strictly through verified biometric records. In addition, trainees will receive monthly stipends only after confirmed attendance.
Training centres that fail to comply will lose access to programme payments. As a result, trainees in such centres will also forfeit their stipends.
Furthermore, the Ministry warned that continued non compliance could lead to removal from the programme. In such cases, authorities may redeploy affected trainees to fully compliant centres.
The Ministry explained that biometric attendance protects public funds. It also ensures that benefits reach genuine participants.
New TVET Centres Must Obtain NBTE Accreditation
Meanwhile, the Federal Government continues to welcome new training centres into the TVET Programme. However, interested centres must first secure accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education.
Prospective centres can complete applications through the NBTE TVET portal at https://www.digitalnbte.nbte.gov.ng/TVET/TVETApplication2
Advisory Issued to TVET Students
Students enrolled in the TVET Programme should confirm that their centres comply with the biometric requirement. Doing so will help them avoid delays or loss of monthly stipends.
Additionally, students can submit complaints or support requests through the official TVET support platform on the portal.
FG Reaffirms Commitment to TVET Integrity
Finally, the Federal Ministry of Education reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the TVET Programme. The Ministry stated that it will continue to manage public resources responsibly. Its goal is to empower Nigerian youth and support national development.
