The Enugu governor access road for FEDPOLY Ohodo project has been confirmed following a pledge by Peter Ndubuisi Mbah to construct a seven kilometer road leading to the institution. The road will connect the permanent site of Federal Polytechnic Ohodo to the Otukpo Obollo Afor 9th Mile Enugu Road.
The governor made the commitment while hosting the Governing Council and management of the polytechnic at the Government House. He assured the delegation that his administration would support the institution’s infrastructural growth and help position it as a center of excellence in engineering, technology, and skills training.
State Government Pledges Infrastructure Support
During the meeting, the governor directed the State Commissioner for Education, Prof Ndubueze Mbah, to collaborate with the institution’s leadership to identify critical areas requiring state intervention. Governor Mbah also promised to address the issue of unpaid compensation to landowners who donated 105 hectares of land for the permanent site. Community concerns over compensation had previously been raised with the management of the institution.
According to the governor, the polytechnic will complement the state’s science, technical, and vocational education drive under the Smart Green School Initiative. The initiative is projected to produce at least 260,000 technically skilled students annually across Enugu State.

The Governing Council delegation was led by Senator Emmanuel Dangana Ocheja. He outlined milestones achieved within five years of the institution’s establishment, including:

Senator Ocheja emphasized that the polytechnic was designed to bridge skills gaps, expand access to quality technical education, and empower youths for self reliance and national development.

Education as a Development Priority
The Council Chairman commended Governor Mbah for allocating 33 percent of the state’s annual budget to the education sector. He described the allocation as a significant investment in human capital development.
He noted that a thriving Federal Polytechnic Ohodo would produce job ready graduates capable of supporting industrial growth, entrepreneurship, and a knowledge driven economy. The institution aligns with the state’s Science Technical and Vocational education expansion.
The Council also praised the construction of ultra modern Science Technical and Vocational schools across the 260 wards of Enugu State. These projects are intended to strengthen technical capacity and promote practical skills acquisition among young people.
Federal Backing and National Policy Alignment
Senator Ocheja further acknowledged the federal government’s emphasis on Technical Vocational Entrepreneurship Training under the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He noted that Federal Polytechnic Ohodo was established in line with national human capital development objectives.
He highlighted the role of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund and other social investment programmes in expanding access to education.

Despite progress, the polytechnic continues to face several challenges. These include:
