Unrest at ADC State Secretariat in Benin City
According to police authorities, the disturbance occurred at the African Democratic Congress State Secretariat located on Ogbelaka Street off Sapele Road in Benin City.
The Command stated that at about 1455 hours, during political activities at the venue, some hoodlums allegedly infiltrated the gathering and caused panic among attendees. The situation reportedly led to a stampede shortly after the official conclusion of the programme, when most dignitaries had already departed.
Police patrol teams responded swiftly to a distress call. However, the individuals responsible reportedly fled upon sighting security operatives.
Authorities disclosed that plastic chairs and canopies arranged outside the secretariat were vandalised and damaged during the incident. Despite the commotion, no casualties were recorded.
Injury reported during stampede
The police confirmed that one woman sustained injuries during the stampede. The injury was not related to gunfire. She was treated at a nearby chemist and later discharged.
Security has since been reinforced around the secretariat and surrounding areas to prevent any further breakdown of law and order. The Command emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace in the state as Edo police confirm attack on ADC secretariat

The police confirmed that no casualties were recorded at the residence.

Commissioner of Police orders investigation
Following the incidents, the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, ordered a comprehensive investigation. The objective, according to the Command, is to identify, apprehend, and prosecute those responsible for the unrest and property damage.
The police reiterated their determination to ensure that those involved are brought to justice and that public order is preserved.
Political reactions to the incident
Reports indicate that the attack occurred shortly after ADC chieftains returned from the party secretariat, where they formally welcomed former Labour Party governorship candidate Olumide Akpata into the party.
Reacting to the development, former presidential candidate Peter Obi condemned the attack. He stated that a formal complaint would be made and stressed that such incidents should not continue.
Meanwhile, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo also condemned the violence. He stated that while the precise motive behind the attack might not yet be fully known, he believed the ultimate objective was to discredit Edo State and undermine its reputation as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria.
Security concerns and public order As Edo police confirm attack on ADC secretariat
The Edo police confirm attack on ADC secretariat incident has raised fresh concerns about political security and the safety of party gatherings. Political events often attract large crowds, making effective security coordination essential.
Authorities have urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as investigations continue. The Command assured residents that adequate measures are being taken to prevent further unrest.
