A former doctor to ex Vice President Dick Cheney has urged the United States Congress to examine President Donald Trump’s mental fitness following recent statements linked to Greenland and the Nobel Peace Prize.

Dr Jonathan Reiner, a longtime cardiologist who previously treated Cheney, raised concerns after a letter sent by Trump to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store became public. In the message, Trump connected his desire for United States control of Greenland to Norway’s failure to award him the Nobel Peace Prize.
In the letter, Trump stated that he no longer felt obligated to focus purely on peace after missing out on the prize, adding that he would instead consider what he believes is best for the United States. He also claimed that global security would remain at risk unless the US gained complete control of Greenland.
Trump further argued that he had done more for NATO than any other individual since its creation and suggested the alliance should act in America’s interest in return.
Reacting to the remarks, Dr Reiner described the letter as troubling. He said the tone and content raised serious questions about the president’s judgment, especially since the message was reportedly shared with other European officials.
According to Reiner, the situation warrants a bipartisan congressional inquiry into presidential fitness, citing the potential national and international implications of such statements.
The White House has not issued a response to the calls for a review.
