The ISWAP leader Abdussamad Ohida killed in the operation was reportedly also known as Anwar. He was reportedly killed during a joint security operation in Owo Forest, Ondo State. The operation involved the Nigerian Army, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Western Nigeria Security Network, also known as Amotekun. Security sources said Ohida was killed alongside several other members of the terrorist group during an operation targeting their forest hideout.
According to security sources, Ohida was allegedly planning attacks in parts of southern Nigeria. The sources said intelligence gathered by security agencies helped them locate the group’s hideout and carry out the operation.
Ohida reportedly became a senior ISWAP figure after his former commander, Abu Ikrimah, also known as Abu Uwais, was arrested by the DSS in 2023. Security sources said he later became involved in ISWAP activities in parts of North-Central and southern Nigeria.
