Joshua Mourns Close Associates
British boxing star Anthony Joshua has shared an emotional message following the death of two close associates. The men died in a car accident along the Lagos Ibadan Expressway.
Joshua posted the message on his Instagram page on Thursday. He reflected on the loss and described it as deeply painful.
Details of the Accident
The crash happened on December 29. Joshua suffered minor injuries in the incident.
However, his personal trainer, Kevin Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, lost their lives.
Doctors treated Joshua for his injuries and discharged him from hospital on New Year’s Eve. He later returned to the United Kingdom.
Final Goodbyes and Family Visits
After returning to the UK, Joshua visited the families of his late associates. He also attended their funeral prayer at the London Central Mosque.
The boxer said the experience forced him to reflect on the people around him.
Emotional Message Shared Online
In his post, Joshua said he did not realise the value of his friends until he lost them. He described them as great men whose presence he had taken for granted.
“I didn’t even realise how special they are,” he wrote. He added that while the loss has been difficult for him, it has been even harder for their families.
Joshua also expressed faith and hope, saying he believes God understands their hearts. He ended the message by praying for mercy for his late friends.
Legal Update on the Case
Meanwhile, Nigerian police confirmed that the driver involved in the crash has been charged. Authorities accused him of causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a valid licence.
A magistrate’s court adjourned the case until January 20. The court granted the suspect bail of five million naira, but he remains in custody pending fulfilment of the bail conditions.
