Former Rivers State governor Rotimi Amaechi has explained why he attended the #OccupyNASS protest in Abuja with his first son.
Amaechi joined Nigerian youths at the National Assembly on Tuesday as protesters demanded real time electronic transmission of election results. The protest followed the Senate’s rejection of a proposal to make e transmission mandatory during elections.

Amaechi Addresses Criticism of Politicians
Speaking at the protest ground, Amaechi said his decision was deliberate. He explained that many Nigerians believe politicians support protests while keeping their children abroad.
According to him, bringing his son was meant to challenge that narrative.
He said whenever citizens protest against injustice, leaders and their families should also be present. He added that his son is a medical doctor and attended the protest to provide medical help if anyone sustained injuries.
Amaechi stressed that true protest requires collective participation and stronger mobilisation than what was seen at the venue.
Other Political Figures Join Protest
The demonstration also drew the attention of other political figures. Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi joined the protest on Monday in solidarity with the youths.
The #OccupyNASS protest continues to reflect growing public pressure on lawmakers over electoral transparency and democratic reforms.
